To be pilgrims in this Year of Faith

“Faith is not clinging to a shrine  but an endless pilgrimage of the heart”

– Abraham Joshua Heschel

“In January we celebrate the great pilgrimage of the Magi to Bethlehem. They make a new start; their faith directs them beyond the familiar into the unknown, landing them eventually in the city of Jerusalem. The pilgrims learn something from the locals: the town where the new king will be born. Off they go again: their destination is not a palance but a child; their journey’s end is not the institution of power but a figure of powerlessness. They bend down before this child, offering him their curious gifts. A journey that started in wonder now leads to worship.”

(Denis McBride, C.Ss.R. Year of Faith diary)
